Overview
The Clinical Ethics app provides a structured approach to assist bedside clinicians to navigate complex decisions when they face ethical uncertainty in their day to day clinical practice.
Who is this app for?
Bedside clinicians working in clinical practice.
What does it do?
The Clinical Ethics App outlines an approach for clinicians to systematically work through when faced with ethical uncertainty in their clinical practice. It is a prompt tool, enabling clinicians to ask themselves a series of questions, and go through a process of critical analysis of values-based questions.
It does not provide answers to ethical questions - it is a guide for ethical decision making.
Why is it helpful?
It helps the clinician more clearly understand the underlying values at play in the decision-making process, and how these can be prioritised in the particular clinical circumstance. This helps them decide on the best way(s) forward, and why.
This app was created specifically to be readily accessible at the clinical interface - bedside or ward, and in low-to-no mobile signal environments that are common in clinical settings.
How do I use it?
Each bar correlates with the seven steps of the process, designed to be worked through in order. For further resources on clinical ethics support, please go to:
